Walking outside with Canon Ixus 265 HS
Today was a beautiful sunny day in Vantaa. It has been a long time since I have used my old Canon Ixus 265 HS digicamera so I thought that it would be nice to go out with it today and shoot in the good light to see what this little camera is capable of.
Yesterday when I was visiting on my home church I saw that one brother had old Ixus in his hands when he was taking pictures and we chatted a little bit about that camera. It reminded me that I hadn't used this in months since I normally use different cameras, mostly Fujifilm X100F and X-T2 and there is no any particular reason why not, I have just used other cameras. I have also found in news and in YouTube that there is some kind of trend amongst Gen Z to use these old digi cameras so it was fun to go outside today and just shoot for fun random things I see without any kind of need to try to get good or artistic shots of anything.
I shot 81 pictures today. Since there is no any kind of possibility for RAW images disk space for all those pictures were only 360,3 MB. I have set Ixus to take biggest possible files with best quality camera offer, but to be honest, I don't know if there is any need for that either. I mean, I do not crop thos photos anyway that much and if I want to take physical copies of those photos at 10 x 15 cm it is easily done with photos which have only 2 MB resolution. If I share these photos here on my website or any other place I resize these as well to be much smaller so if I think about it, there is not much sense to take biggest possible photos this camera can offer.
Since I normally use Fujifilm X100F as my main Point and Shoot -camera this Canon Ixus feels so lightweight that it blows my mind. X100F is a heavy one. I love the quality and usability of X100F and how beautiful black and white photos I can get directly from camera, but it is still heavy to carry all around. It is insane how small and lightweight this camera is. I love that.
I gotta admit that I like the quality of photos Ixus can take in good light. There is nothing wrong with them in my point of view. Surely some might disagree with me, colors might be too over saturated, there is noise and grain etc. but in average normal usage, photos are just fine. And isn't that the whole point of photography anyway?
Of course it is worth noting that there is JPEG artefacts in these photos I share here on this web page but those are not visible in original photo that came out from camera. I resize and compress these photos quite much so they do not use huge amount of disk space. I want to keep my site fast to load and if I put 3 MB photos here it would be pain and suffering for everybody to download on slow web. And even we have quite fast web connections here in west, it is still useless to put huge images to web pages if there is no any need for it.
When I was on my walking I also visited on a second hand shop to see if there is anything interesting. I found a portable DVD player with 2 x 7" screen and it was only 15 euros so I bought that. When I came home I already watched one movie with it and so far so good, except the power adapter cable have some issues. When I move the cable to wrong angle the whole player turns off. Gotta take a look if I can find better power adapter at home for it, but at least I was able to watch one movie with it and it was quite a pleasant experience. If I have time and patience in future I might write some day about it here on this site as well.
Finally I also visited in new pizzeria/restaurant what has been here in Koivukylä some months at least already. Today I hadn't ate anything before I went to the walk and I had a plan to visit at another pizzeria instead cooking at home but since this restaurant, Restaurant Hola, was on my walking trip I decided to go there instead. Pizza as well as the service was good so no complaints.
