Review
Play stupid games, win stupid prices. Probably that would be most easy way to describe the main plot of this movie.
There is some kind of battle of area ownership between puertoricoans and white ghetto people in New York. Both have strong opinions of each others and that will lead them to gang fight.
Tony, a man who have done stupid things and been in jail wants to stay out of this fight. He will even fall in love with Maria, a puertoricoan girl and he wants to stop the fight but with no luck. Marias brother gets killed in fight as well one guy from white gang. Sadly neither part of fight does not get any smarter because of this and their hate stays within them and in the end they will learn how to forget there hate when Tony gets shot to death in front of Maria.
Story was interesting and it worked well, but it has not much depth in its love story. To be honest, I don't remember any other musical either with deep love story and interesting charaters. Maybe I have not seen enough musicals since it just feels that their love stories are mostly "Love at first sight" kind of naivity like in this one, but this movie was interesting from another aspects mostly.
Even its love story is dull and lack of depth there is more bigger meaning how it shows racial tensions and social problems in 50's era in New York city. People who have not much hope for their future just rather spend their time fighting against each others than against the society or try other ways to solve their problems in more constructive manners.
In the end this was good movie and enjoyed it.
