Review
Two samurai is riding in the forest when they see an old witch what tells them prophecies of becoming things. Two of those prophecies gets fullfilled that day. Later another of them gets paranoid because of what his wife speaks and that causes him to kill a man in higher position. That still does not stop problems coming.
On my second watch I saw this movie on Criterion Collection DVD with english subtitles when previously I had seen this on BluRay with finnish subtitles. On this second watch I still liked this movie. Some of the terms in english were something I had to check from translator since its language was richer than my own english, but still it was easy enough that I could easily follow the movie.
I liked slow pace of this movie. The story about lust for power what will cause sacrifices but what in the end starts to destroy the person is interesting. On DVD booklet it was told that it has got ideas from Shakespeare's Macbeth, but since I have not read it I can't tell. Maybe I should take a look it some day.
Characters and their relationships to each other are interesting, especially how the wife speaks to his man and can cause him to kill a man. Is that man doing what he want, or does his wife really control him and use him as a tool for his own lust for power?
This is a great movie and deserve multiple watches.Review written: 2023-03-28
Interesting movie with a style that is still relevant on 2023.
Two soldiers sees some kind of ghost in the forest. They will hear what their future will hold, maybe because it was something what they wanted to hear or maybe it was a prophecy of the future. At first they didn't take it too seriously, but later on that day they already can see that at least part of that prophecy comes true.
Later lust for power grows on another man and doubts of honesty comes to his mind because his wife feeds him thoughts that makes him suspicious.
This was a great movie. Its story is fascinating and shows dangers of lust for power, visual style is beautiful and pacing of the movie is enjoyable.
