Review
Since the virus escaped from the lab of Umbrella Corporation what causes humans to turn to zombies Alice have been busy trying to survive and kill these creatures. On previous movie everything started to look good again but in the end enemies came to them. This movie starts where the last ended and Alice is again captured. She manages to escape thanks to the help of somebody. She finds out where she is kept and soon the rescue team is also coming to help her to get away from there.
Like previous ones this works better if you have seen previous movies since you already know the characters and their relationships to each others. Story is told very shortly in the beginning what have happened, but not very detailed way so seeing all the previous Resident Evil -movies helps a lot to make sense to story.
My biggest complain from multiple movies in this serie have been annoying editing and too many jumpscares. Not all the movies had these issues and this time neither one is the issue for me at least. Editing is better and it was not annoying at all. Surely it is fast paced from time to time, but still easily watchable and understandable. There were also well made slow motions like in previous movie.
Bigger story what have been going on through multiple movies is opened a little bit more and know we get to know more who is behind this all at this moment so this gives continuity to the serie. Plot itself is quite mediocre but still good enough to make this watchable.
Action scenes are many ways boring like they have been in previous movies as well since you can guess that bad guys shoot lots and lots but almost never get anybody killed, but good guys just come, shoot and kill what makes most of the scenes somehow boring. It is not very big deal of course since it is kind of genetics of this kind of movies DNA, but since you can already know what will happen or be almost certain what will happen then it is just a matter of how the good guys kills bad guys this time what will turns those scenes sometimes repetitive and without much meaning.
One thing what I have liked in last couple of Resident Evil movies have been visual style and another one have been excellent audio. In this movies both areas are again top notch. CGI also looks excellent, but the usage of lightning and colors are just impressive visually and it is better than in many other big budget movies I have seen. Also audio effects and soundscape in general is well made and at least with Dolby Atmos system it is easy to appreciate it.
All in all, this movie is mediocre action movie, but still enjoyable. It is not the masterpiece of cinema but I don't think it even tries to be. It is a fun and entertaining kick ass action movie with beautiful visual style.
